Club's reopening is Sugar sweet

2:54pm Thursday 2nd September 2010

A NIGHTCLUB owner has said business is booming after his Brentwood venue reopened.

Michael Norcross, who owns the Sugar Hut, in Brentwood High Street, said thousands of people had already walked through its doors since opening last Thursday.

The re-opening came just under a year after a blaze ravaged the building and forced it to close.

Mr Norcross said it had been a success and claimed trouble between revellers had been kept to a minimum, as staff and police worked to keep any problems under control.

Mr Norcross said: “We have had 3,500 people through the venue in a very short space of time, which is very good.

“There was a huge police presence outside, and there were just a couple of very minor incidents.”

Queues of people were seen lining up outside the club over the weekend as customers were keen to see the changes carried out at the building. Mr Norcross began a £2million revamp of the premises earlier this year.

Before the fire, it used to be a haunt for celebrities such as pop star Pixie Lott and model Jodie Marsh.

The venue’s opening hours are still between 7.30pm and 2am from Thursdays to Saturdays, and until 1.30am on Sundays.

However, its capacity has been almost doubled, increasing from a maximum of 540 people to 1,000.
