Annual art trail has eye on the Olympics
7:30am Saturday 28th January 2012
AN art attack is set to make a splash in Brentwood again this year.
Brentwood Art Trail returns on Monday, June 18 and will run until Saturday June 30. Brentwood Council is now on the lookout for artists, public venues and local art groups to get involved.
This year the event will focus on the themes of the Olympics, and artists and schools will be asked to submit or create work that interprets and reflects excellence, friendship, respect, courage, determination, inspiration or equality.
Councillor Mark Reed, chairman of Brentwood Council’s retail, community and culture panel, said: “We are very lucky to once again have the opportunity to host our own trail in Brentwood and I hope that all our local talented artists, some new and exciting venues and members of our local art groups will get in touch and participate.
“The Summer of Art across Essex is always an exciting time, and as well helping to raise the profile of artistic culture in the county, it brings visitors into Brentwood. “It’s also a great opportunity for our residents to visit new venues in the town and is an excellent showcase for our local artists to show off their talents.”
The Brentwood Art Trail was established in 2009 and brings together artists as well as other talented people from the borough and businesses.
A number of works will be displayed at various venues throughout the borough, enabling artist’s work to be recognised, appreciated and accessible for all.
The event is part of the successful countywide Essex Summer of Art programme, a cultural tourism project involving 19 art trails inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Any suitable venues, individual artists, either professional or amateur working in a variety of media, or art events being held during the trail will be considered to participate free of charge.
Anyone interested in getting involved should call 01277 312801 or 07966 569309, or e-mail natalie. creary@brentwood.gov.uk by Friday February 17.
