Girls on top in district clean sweep
11:17am Thursday 8th July 2010

MORE than 120 athletes represented Brentwood School at the District Athletics Championships, held at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford.
The event was held in glorious sunshine and heats were held during the course of the morning with the top eight qualifiers competing in finals in the afternoon.
All eight school teams competed magnificently and there were some tremendous performances.
In the first year, Naomi Kpogho produced a blistering 100m to convincingly win her event and this feat was matched by Nathan Southern in the 200m.
In the second year, Nicole McKechnie, Christy Dailly and Maddie Gough again produced scintillating displays to further enhance their reputations as outstanding athletes.
Third year pupil Austin Lipman won the 100m in 11.27s, which bodes well as he has now been selected to compete for Essex at the English Schools Championships to be held in Birmingham this coming weekend.
Helen Walls displayed considerable fighting spirit in a very exciting 800m race.
Lastly, Rosie Dailly won the long jump and 300m competing for the fourth year girls and Nikita Usichneko won the triple jump for the fourth year boys.
In the end, pupils and staff awaited to hear the final results. Brentwood School girls won every trophy available, an outstanding achievement.
The Brentwood boys finished second in every age group, also a good achievement.
The overall trophy was awarded to Brentwood School (won by 88 points) and was collected by senior athletes Lauren Tai, Rosie Dailly, Stephen Woodford and Olumayowa Olubowale.
Director of sport Mr Kayne commented: “I should like to thank all pupils and staff for their significant achievements and dedication.”
