Hockey team suffer three-goal loss
1:47pm Wednesday 25th January 2012
BRENTWOOD MEN 0 WITHAM 3 BRENTWOOD went into this encounter in good spirits following a series of good results before the winter break.
However, they knew they would have to be on their best form to overturn a Witham side who had got the better of Brentwood earlier in the season.
Brentwood started brightly, creating numerous chances but none of them could find the back of the net.
This pattern continued throughout the first 20 minutes, but it was Witham who scored first. The Witham winger was allowed to drive at goal along the byline and his cross found the centre forward unmarked to slip into an empty net.
The second half saw Brentwood start brightly and again created chances. However, the sucker punch second goal for Witham came from a solid short corner routine.
Brentwood, chasing the game, conceded a third with a few minutes to go after James Stock in goal unfortunately pushed the clearance on to the onrushing forward’s stick.
The 3-0 result was a wake-up call for a Brentwood side who have to sharpen up their finishing and structure in defence.
